Haxnbauer in Munich

What an amazing experience!!! Being a seafood ? lover I immediately saw this restaurant on the corner near my hotel.

Come here for a brilliant Pork knuckle.

Traditional Bavarian food ! Very nice and helpfull staff ... for sure we will be back to try some more delicious plates !

Great food, great pork, great beer. Every time I’m in Munich, I make sure being twice at least at Haxnbauer.

Great German traditional food. The place has been in business for ages. It’s a Munich classic for German food. We tried the classic Hanx (half) with potato Balls and it was super tasty (and also a lot of food). We paid 48€ for to plates and 1 big bottle of water. The place is very big. Also suitable for big groups.

The food and service was really excellent, but there is no atmosphere here at all. I understand this may be traditional, however the harsh lighting and high vaulted ceilings without soft furnishings made it feel like eating in a food court or school dining hall. Worth a visit for the food alone, but expect a no frills experience.

The waiter(female) at the restaurant was very very rude. Won’t go back to this place!

Best Haxe I have ever tried!!!

Brilliant Bavarian food and a much quieter and nicer alternative to the Hofbrauhaus nearby.

We were recommended to come here for the famous pork knuckles. Definitely did not disappoint. The 1/2 portion was large and enough for sharing if you are not a big meat eater. The beef broth was only average. Good service but quite sad to see the whole restaurant empty during lunch time due to COVID.

I had high expectation before I came to this restaurant because it has been recommended in many blogs or so. However, to me that was apparently overrated. I had Schweinshaxe, one of the dishes that the restaurant is famous of. The outer part of it was too dry and rough to even chew. Even the sauce was a bit too heavy to me. I am a Schweinshaxe lover, and I tried the same dish in many restaurants in Germany. The one I tried here was almost the worst. Can't recommend. However, seeing so many positive reviews here, it could be that the food quality was not consistent.

This restaurant is overrated. We had Schweinshaxe, but its texture was just like wood. It was a terrible experience. Worst of all, my stomach was bloating after the meal! Not recommended!

I was not happy with the Schweinshaxe. I’ve had better in other places. This is supposed to be there prize dish. The meat was dry and tough. Most restaurants have a technique where the meat falls off the bone and the skin is crisp. The Knödel were standard fare and the sauce was just right. The side salad I rested for additional cost would have been nice if properly dressed but the measly spoonful of dressing made it just a raw vegetable bowl. I had the most unpleasant waiter who would rather have stayed home this evening. The space is lovely though.

Unfortunately due to Covid is not as popular as it used to be but food is just as great as old times.

Good food and friendly staff

The Haxe was great as the dumplings. Still the salad was ice Cold and drowned in the sauce. The soup was good but a bit salty. It was understaffed but they where really friendly. And the interior is boring. So I am sorry but only 3 stars from me.

Probably the worst restaurant experience we’ve ever had - absolutely nothing was good! The wine spritzers were completely flat and flavourless, and we had a view into the kitchen where we saw how the beer was being poured: maybe the machine was broken, but we watched them pour four or five different glasses of beer into one big glass before trying to serve it to us: the result was, of course, completely flat beer! We also watched in disbelief as they poured bottled beer into glasses, then take foam from a tap with a completely different beer in it and add it to the top of the glasses to make it look like a head! There’s no way the beer that we ordered was the beer that ended up in our glasses! And then the food came: the haxen was so over cooked and dry, almost impossible to cut into and chew, as though it had just been sitting on heat for hours. Even the pretzel was dry as a bone....quite an achievement! The service was pretty poor, too: the waiter rudely told the manager right in front of us that we were “Americans who didn’t know what a real haxe was”. Pretty stereotypical, since none of us are actually American, and we’ve lived in Germany for several years and have eaten plenty of great haxen! This was not a great haxe. Not even an okay haxe, actually.

Wow. Absolutely the worst experience of my dining life. I would say "worst meal," but I only managed two bites before I sent it back. I ordered the haxe, for which this place is famous, but somehow the crackling was dangerous for ingestion and the "flesh" was drier than the humour of the"waiter" that "served" us. It took 16 minutes before we saw a beer, which was an amalgamation of five other beers. When we complained, in reasonable German, he explained that "These Americans don't know what haxe is." 1. We're not American. 2. That's pretty xenophobic. 3. Yes we do. Not this. We sent the food back and refused a replacement, I'm sure it would have been equally awful. Please don't go: you can go to McDonald's or something.

Fantastic pork knuckle ???

Nice food but poor service. No tap water served for kids and waiter got told off by manager for calling another kid Habibi. The atmosphere and building we were nice but the professionalism of the staff needs to be improved.

Busy very well known and traditional Restaurant. Service is fast and food is good. Meat a bit dry for my taste but good. Service is fast and attentive given the fact of how many people they serve per day.

Good location for a quick in-between stop, but very pricey for fairly mediocre food. The place itself is pretty in that rural, no-fringes way - with patrons from all walks of life. But, if it’s great food you’re after, you may be better served at other places in the vicinity.

Chicken not freshly grilled, dishes not better then at any Imbiss. Manager in charge extremely unprofessional. Asking people to sit at your table even half of the tables are not occupied.

Had a great Dinner There. Our Kids had lots of fun and also good food. We ordered the most famous "Haxe" and it was awesome. See you soon great staff great food

If you are looking for a traditional Bavarian restaurant that's your place. Pork knukle is recommended.

The best Schweinehaxe from germany!

Very good choice if you i looking for a typical German food with exelent taste. Charchoal grilled Schweinhaxe is just my favorite.

Restaurant for tourist. Quite expensive but offers great food. Do try the pork knuckle.

Had a really nice introduction to Bavarian cuisine in a great atmosphere! Staff were really helpful and pleasant if a little stretched at times. I had pork knuckle (a first) which was delicious, much like a pork belly with crackling though more moist as it's cooked by rotisserie. Great start to my Munich trip!

My no#1 Germany roste pork feet in Munich. Always arrange time to visit here when we back to Munich. Nice food and services! You will see lots of pork feet outside and a lot of selection. If you like to have friend fries, you can also talk to serve to change the side dish to fries.

Have been hier twice, this place met my expectation both time

We really liked this place. Nice atmosphere and food it's indeed something. Soup was AWESOME... Very big portions you HAVE TO try the knuckle and come here if you are in Munich! Usually there's a queue. Very recommend.

Famous restaurant in town. Not bad. Many tourist. The server trend to arrange same nationality group to sit nearby. When the restaurant still have many table available.

Great service and better food. You can't ask for more. Payment has to be in cash. No cards accepted. Don't forget to.order some dessert, just amazing. And forget about having dinner that day.
